Had a grastroscope done last week cause my doctor cut back on my prilosec and I was misserable.   I am now back on 40mg. prilosec and 2 zantac a day to try and heal the inflammation which the scope showed.  But the surgeon told me that the prilosec is not good and I should stay on it for a few months and then he wants me only on zantac as needed.  ugh!!!  I am sooooo so upset.  I was on zantac years and years ago when I first started having problems of night time reflux and acid coming up my throat and then it quit working for me.  Had an upper GI and I refluxed and aspirated while they were taking the pictures and the doctor came over and said has anyone ever told you what was wrong?  He called my doctor right away and I was called into the office where I started right on the prilosec.   And I have been doing great now for years on the prilosec (and also reglan) til my doctor decided to cut back on my dosage.  I am going to talk seriously to my family doctor about all of this and ask to see a specialist.  Appreciate any feedback on all of this.   thanks...Debi  tongue

Hi Debi, What an awful time you`ve had. GERD is a miserable condition to suffer with. As i have said before on this site, i think these PPI`s only work for a certain length of time before the acid comes back. It seems to me that we have been guinea pigs for this experiment. I am waiting for a gastroscopy cos my meds have stopped working, even though i have been taking a higher dose. I tried to cut back a week ago and am still suffering the consequences. I hope you get yourself sorted out soon. Good luck. Vanessa

Deborah Mangum - How are you doing?  What medicine are you now taking, if any?  I have been away from the board for awhile and would like to catch up on how people are coping.  Thanks.

Hi Searchin'.......I am curently on reglan 4 times a day and 40 mg. of prilosec and 1 zantac at night. The inflammation is gone and I have been able to cut the extra zantac in the morning out. I am so hoping when I see my doctor in 2 weeks that he keeps me going just like this as I have been doing great on this schedule of meds until he decided to cut the prilosec back to 20 mg. which I am sure cause the inflamation and the need for a scope. I have been dealing with GERD before there even was a name for it. I remember episodes as a child and through college and as I got older it got worse. It is not a fun thing to live with.......but treatable and tolerable if they keep the right dose of medicine in you. Debi :-)

Deb - Thanks for sharing your info.  I was interested to hear what you are trying.  Keep us posted.
