Hi Albez

As you are in the UK, I was wondering if you could tell me how long it took you from the time you had your 24hr PH Test to get to your surgery date?

I am getting so frustrated with waiting on this test, and am fearful of having to wait months even after this to be referred back to the hospital, then months again to see a surgeon.

I hope you are doing well, and that your recovery is going smoothly.

I had the pH test the end of January and had my surgery on the 16th Sept. It all depends on how busy your hospital is I suppose but 8 months wait isnt too bad i guess. I had numerous other tests inbetween like a barium swallow and a gastric emptying test.

I'm not doing too bad. I'm just getting over peak swelling so the last few days have been testing as regards swallowing but pain wise I'm feeling fine. I'm tempted to make a beef casserole this weekend as I had poached eggs with mushrooms this morning and that went down fine. I will see how I'm feeling on Friday, don't want to push my luck though as I'm only day 16 post op.

Hi Albez,

Thank you for providing that information. It helps to give me some perspective on the waiting times. When you're waiting so long, you wonder if this is the norm for everyone, or should you be pushing your doctor to try and speed things up.

If I didn't have the other health issue of osteoporosis I would not be so anxious. I am worried about being left on the PPIs for a long time, knowing that they are not doing my bones any good. I don't want to end up with a fracture on top of all of this! Gerd is enough to be dealing with at the moment. I'm also worried about my oesophagus being exposed to stomach acid for months to come :(
I'm having a very bad week reflux wise which isn't helping me stay positive, can only think it was triggered by some apple juice which I don't normally drink.

Oh yummy .. poached eggs and mushrooms .. sounds delicious! .. I'm very envious LOL. It's great to know that you are doing well and gives me hope for the future. I hope you go from strength to strength.

Albez, just to let you know that I rang the hospital late yesterday afternoon to see if they could enlighten me as to my place on the waiting list.
Long story short, they said that they sent a letter to me on the 25th September with an appointment for the 22nd. October for PH and Manometry. I told them that I never received it. They said that's not unusual as they send all their letters through TNT now, it can take two weeks for them to arrive and that some people never even get them! Anyway the upshot is that my appointment is imminent, so I'm really pleased about that turn

That's great to hear. The letter for my gastric emptying test got lost in the post and it was only when I inquired about having the test done that my GI doc said I should of had the test done already. I then had to chase up with the nuclear dept to find out what happened and they of course generally thought I just didn't show up. I then got sent an appointment to have the test done two weeks after surgery which I luckily managed to get rebooked two weeks before surgery.

Anyway, hope your tests work out for you. Wish u all the best.
