The Healingwell website, the worldwideweb, and the information contained within it has helped me enormously in understanding my long term health condition. I am very grateful.

We patients now have, literally, the same information as the doctors, at our finger tips.

When a company such as Google makes a press release such as the one below, it seems that we are just at the start of something that could prove life-changing for many. Let's hope that as part of their remit, they can help find a way toward a cure for GERD.

Levinson, Chairman and former CEO of Genentech and Chairman of Apple, will be Chief Executive Officer and a founding investor.

Thanks for sharing that!  You are so right...there is so much great information out there!  Some docs can't handle the fact that we can advocate for ourselves due to this info.  Those docs try to undermine their patients' confidence and say the information isn't valid.  That, in my opinion, is the sign of doctor who lacks confidence.

When I was discussing something I'd seen online with my PCP, I expected him to discount that information as some other docs had.  Instead he said the opposite. There is a tremendous amount of great information online. 

We are fortunate, indeed.  The only negative in all this is when health anxiety rears its ugly head and the wealth of information suddenly becomes the source of a great deal of pain and angst.  On the whole, though, it's a good thing.

Google has been a welcome friend this last 10 years or so. The wealth of information has helped me no end. The only problem is trying to decipher fact from fiction as there is so much confliction in cyberspace. I could quite happily survive on a desert island as long as I had the internet.
