empty stomach question on Carafate and what is the fastest way to make it a 'sludge'?

I know the paper on Carafate says it takes 2 hours but the pharmacist said when he used it in the hospital where he worked before, they considered it minutes to an hour.  What have your doctors said?

Also, and this may be a dumb question, but if you hungry even if it hasn't been that long, does that automatically mean your stomach is empty?  I can see it taking at least 45 minutes but if it should take 2 hours and I am hungry after 45 minutes, isn't that an empty stomach?

Also what is the fastest way to make a sludge? I keep thinking it should be faster than over 5 minutes of soaking a pill. Crushing it and then adding water leaves clumps. Are clumps ok?

I soak the pill and no matter if I think it is disolved, I still find a small part of pill left after taking it.

I'm trying to understand my doctor's and my pharmacist's (mostly the pharmacist's) explanations but still don't feel like I have it down.

Also, is there a way to search for messages by who started a post?  Sorry if that last question shouldn't be in this post but I can't find the answer.

Mine were easily dissolved in water with just stirring it a little. Maybe they are more compressed now than when I took them. I would keep crushing and stirring it until it is a slurry. It may have some grit to it though.

Takes almost 10 minutes. I'm surprised yours were so fast. Do you think a pill crusher is ok because it is ok to have the grit you were talking about, so does that mean any clumps are ok also>

My carafate pills would explode a little when they got wet. When I first got them I was crushing them up, then adding a few tblsp of water, but then I realized it wasnt necessary.
I put them in a 20ml medicine cup and just put water in that, by the time I went to down it, it was all disolved.

I think that the grit you feel is inevitable and its not a big deal to get it super smooth.

I'm really confused. Why do mine take 10 minutes before they aren't a pill anymore?

You could have a different generic formulation than the ones that Bill and I had which is causing it to not dissolve in the same way ours did? Mine dissolved almost instantly.

I ended up asking for the liquid suspension instead of the tablets because my insurance would pay for it and I preferred it to the pills, so I did not take the pills very long.

I might have to ask my doctor or pharmacist about the liquid form. The pharmacist should know if I can get insurrance to pay for it. I think they will not. I have a co-pay for 4 medicines a month and each change of dose or form of medicine counts as a new medicine. From the  5th one on I pay out of pocket for the entire thing.

Maye I will ask if a pill crusher will still work even though it leaves clumps. Does anyone know if it is ok?

After my Nissen surgery, i still had to take some medications in pill form and found that I needed to finely grind them. I bought a cheap coffee grinder for my pills and it turned them into a fine powder.
That might be another option for you if you have a coffee grinder or if you can pick one up cheaply

I have one of those mini pill crushers. But I hd never thought of a coffee grinder. I wonder if it would make a difference, less clumpy. I don't know.
