I was wondering if someone has any insight or comments.

about 1 1/2 years ago I woke up coughing and gasping. This went on for about two hours. The next day I began to have terrible throat clearing. It always felt as if there were mucous in my throat, but I never coughes any up. I also noticed the symptoms would get worse after eating.

I have pursued ENT doctors, gastroenterologists. I have had the ph bravo, the 24 hour double ph probe. Everything came back negative. ANd I still continue to clear my throat continuosuly and without stop. I have been on and off medication over the past year and a half and also have taken things like tagament, zantac, etc. My ENT has me on 40 mg of aciphex twice a day for the past month, but no results. I am going to visit the surgeon in another two weeks to see about having the nissen done, but with all my test results being negative, I am not sure what he can do.

My quality of life has suffered greatly, nit to mention a constant stae of depression. sad

Has anyone gone through the same thing. If so, let me know what you did and any results that you had.

I get the constant clearing of the throat and the mucous also. I am not sure what causes that but I kind of think that it is something like when you have a cold. Your nose will start running due to the inflammation in the lining of the nose. With constant acid reflux, your throat gets inflammed so it just makes sense to me that there will be mucous in your throat. I could be wrong but thats my guess :).

Like both of you, I have suffered from chronic postnasal drip and thick mucous in my throat especially after eating. In addition, my sinuses would begin to drain while eating.

Because my line of work involves a lot of talking and public speaking in general, this has been very frustrating for me.

I had the Nissen Fumdooplication on 10.18.1e and I have had minimal mucous which is very encouraging to me.

I'm in the same boat. Coughing for two years now; sometimes it's a dry cough, and other times, I feel like there's a chunk of mucus that I can never cough up. Little to no heartburn. I'm a teacher, so constantly coughing and clearing my throat is really bothersome.

Not only have studies shown that PPIs and other antacids are harmful in the long run, they've been shown to be ineffective for people with LPR, which is what you and I probably have (vs. GERD). I don't think doctors truly know how to treat LPR yet.

I just took myself off Omeprazole after a terrible month on it and am going to see if radical diet changes help. I'm doing low-carb, gluten-free, and starting Saturday, I'm going to do a 5-7 day "juice detox" (see www.rebootwithjoe.com). Crossing my fingers I see some improvment...

My husband had this - ENT said his vocal chords were red, he put him on ppi's one in the morning and one in the evening. He also explained that every time you cough you are making it worse, imagine a scab healing then when you cough you pull the scab off again. He told him to carry a bottle of water everywhere with him, and when he had the urge to cough to supress it and swig some water. Within 2 months his cough had completely disappeared, and he quit the ppi's.

I on the other hand get post nasal drip from my sinus - no red vocal chords but dysphagia - I have yet to find a cure.

This post has been very helpful I had the TIF procedure done and I believe I also suffer from LPR. I'm going to ask my surgeon if the TIF procedure would also be a solution to LPR. I have always has issues with sinus infections, post nasal drip, a dry cough, and constantly feeling like I have something in my throat I can't get out.
