Hi renegade_7,As a beer lover, I was also worried about the carbonation. I started drinking beer again around 4 months post-op. I had sips before that, but we went on vacation at the 4 month mark, and I can remember having beers.
I drink draft as well as bottle beer, and don't have a problem with either. One beverage I found very difficult was champagne. The carbonation was far too aggressive, and I had painful bloating afterward.
Someone I knew had been "wrapped" two years earlier than me. When I expressed concern over not being able to drink beer after surgery, she assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. (4 years post op!) Soda carbonation is more aggressive than beer as well, but at this point, I can drink that without a problem.
I can't burp the way I did pre-op, but my stomach burps itself when it is in the mood, but often I'll drink a beer with no burp to relieve the gas, and it still isn't a problem. Obviously, if you don't burp, you'll find increased flatulence after consuming the carbonation. Give it a try...start with a little and see how it goes, and increase as you can.
Best wishes,
Denise
