While I don't know the costs, I do know a very good GI doctor that is at Loyola. Have you checked into getting the medical card?

If you coukd give me the info that will be awesome I'm seeing the surgeon soon and would love to get some tests done before hand. I don't qualify for medical csrd :( sso everything is out of pocket thanks in advance

Hi Anna,

I had all my testing done at Northwestern Memorial, downtown Chicago. They do have a foundation that helps uninsured pay bills. I was very pleased with my GI doctor and surgeon there. Dr. Nathaniel Soper performed my NF. I had a relatively easy recovery compared to many others. I highly recommend him.

I looked at my bills in order to answer your question. I had Manometry, Ph Monitor and endoscopy all done during the same time frame on August 6, 2013. The total bill for those procedures was $ 7,434.00. I had a Bravo monitor, which was inserted via endoscopy. They also did biopsies at that time and whatever was necessary to rule out barretts.

by the way - can you wait until Obamacare takes hold on January 1? Won't you be able to get very affordable insurance at that time? It has to be considerably less than paying out of pocket for these expensive procedures.

Laurie thanks for your response they do seem expensive maybe I will look around hospitals are always more expensive with tests and by the way I am also seeing dr. Soper on Jan. 10th I heard lots of good stuff about him I also reaserched I think he is definitely the guy to do the job right. I have to take action can't stand that stupid Gerd.

You will like him. I had complete trust in him. I had to have mine done in a hospital because of very bad asthma. I am sure it would have been less expensive at my local GI doctor's office. I chose to go with the GI that works with Dr. Soper, as I already knew I needed the NF before the tests.

I would call around in your case, compare prices. It seems most GI docs are in large groups, with a few selected ones that perform the Bravo insertion. If you are anywhere near the northwestern suburbs, I recommend Dr. D. Gordon, she does the bravo.

Laurie Can you tell me about your appointment with Dr. Soper since I never had a consult with a surgeon before. I think its definitely cheaper to do the testing outside the hospital like for instance the endoscopy cost me 1200 the barium swallow 350. I'm interested in Linx but I will do Nissen if I'm not a good candidate. I'm also scared of surgery because I'm a smoker even though I cut back alot since this whole gerd issue started so suddenly. Also were you a typical gerd and what is your post surgery outcome. Thanks so much for all valuable info. Anna

By the way I am northwestern suburbs and I thought it will be a good idea to have all my tests in order when I go to see Dr. Soper he is a busy guy I made that appointment in the first week of November and I keep calling them every week to check for any cancellations they know me by now :)

You should have your ph test and manometry results before your consult, unless you plan on making two appointments with him. I was quite nervous, but had spent hours reading on this forum and elsewhere. I had a list of questions which he easily answered. I was so worried about recovery. I went ahead and scheduled the surgery with him for his next available opening.

I think the smoking might be more of an issue with anesthesia, but I really don't know.

I don't know if he does Linx. He has done some TIF, but recommends NF due to his success rate with his patients.

Thats what I figured and I know he does Linx because there is another member here and she got it done by him. How long you had gerd before the surgery and how bad was it. Sorry to ask so much but I have it for four months nonstop and its awful. By the way I'm 35years old and I was always the happiest person nobody could recognize me anymore this thing took over my life.

I took meds for GERD for 34 years, ppi's Rx strength since they became available. I started inhaling acid a few years ago, but was mis-diagnosed with asthma caused by allergies.

Severe illness is awfully depressing. It is great you are getting yourself taken care of.

Thanks and I'm very happy that you were able to get your surgery I think taking medicine for the rest of my life is not an option (and it doesn't even take my symptoms away 100%).I really appreciate all your help thanks again.
