Hi CMiller,
At three months people often get into problems. That's when we tend to introduce more challenging foods into our post-Nissen diets, and we challenge our newly-formed, still healing wraps. The esophagus is a dumb organ, and all pain is interpreted as reflux. It's likely that much of that pain is just irritation. Christmas is a time when everyone overdoes it.
No worries...just baby your stomach. It'll likely take a couple weeks to get back to a comfortable state, but be patient. Back off and stick with softer foods for a while. Stay away from irritating spices, acidic foods, and alcohol. Give your poor wrap/stomach a break.
I know it's hard to deal with, but this recovery isn't a straight line. It is a bit of a roller coaster, with ups and downs. Steps forward and steps backward. You'll get there, though.
Those of us with sensitive GI tracts are even more susceptible to all those challenging foods/drinks around the holidays. The surgery doesn't cure our sensitive stomachs...just keeps most of the acid in our stomach, where it belongs! Of course it is possible to get some reflux after surgery. The surgeon goes for "normal" levels. If he/she were to make the wrap tight enough to keep absolutely all acid at bay, you wouldn't be able to get food past it!
Hang in there. With rest, your wrap/stomach will get feeling better.
Happy healing,
Denise
