I had a lap Nissen done Thursday.
My doctor said I can read all I want on the internet, but the foods to avoid are bread/pasta, meat, carbonated beverages, and raw vegetables. He said it's from decades of experience that he says this. His mentor in his laparoscopic/robotic residency was a lap Nissen pioneer in Chicago.
He knows that I'm an intense engineering type person, so he paid special attention to making sure I was very clear on listening to him.
It's now Sunday and every day is much better. Thursday after the surgery I thought I was going to die. I've never felt like I've been hit by a car like that. Day two I knew I was not ready to leave the hospital. Day three was ready to leave but went up and down as pain killers came and went. Today, I took one pain pill just to keep on top of it and had a bowl of broth, a Popsicle, and water. I'm taking care of myself now and pretty much out of the woods and on the way to recovery. No PPIs since Thursday, which means about ten years of meds are, for now, hopefully over.
I wouldn't read too much about what people experienced because we're all different. Just be ready to really fight for a couple of days. I questioned whether I'd really messed up, but just four days out I don't wonder anymore. Stay determined and strong, ask your nurses for help and don't be ashamed, and you'll be out in no time.
