I am having the Nissen surgery in roughly a month and have read many posts regarding the diet and chewing food into a liquid/mush for the several weeks following the procedure. My question is this, let's say 6 months to a year after surgery will the type of food and the chewing required to eat and swallow it return to normal? By normal I mean the way I was prior to the surgery. Thank you in advance for info, I have read many posts and I feel much more comfortable with my decision to go forward with this procedure.

I have just been wrapped.Mine was partial. I have very mild swallowing difficulties.i think full wraps or tight wraps are the most problematic. However i know of ppl who are years post surgery and eat so normal you wouldnt think they had one!!

The only real issue after your have fully recovered is to remember to eat slower if you are a fast eater now. That is a good idea anyhow, but if you eat to fast it can get hung up at the wrap. Usually it will go through with a drink or two though.

Other than that completely normal.

April 30th will be a year since my Nissen was done. I was back to my regular diet (albeit in smaller portions) about 3-4 months after my surgery. The key is going slow and babying your wrap. Advancing your diet too quickly can damage your wrap and cause you to have needless, and painful, setbacks during your recovery.
