Hi just found this forum whilst googling how long should a lap nissens last for , i had mine done 10 years ago and was free from symptoms until i got gall stones 3 years ago which made me vomit and since then the heartburn has been getting worse , at the moment ive got it 24/7 and im getting it whether i eat or dnt eat, no antacids work , not sure whether i need the operation again but ive also got coeliac disease so not sure if thats making it worse , also my father died of oesaphacal cancer 8 years ago after suffering with heartburn for many years , even though ive had my gall bladder removed its still getting worse the reflux , any suggestions or help please

hi I've not even told my doctor im suffering again as im trying to cope with taking antacids as im nervous of telling my doctor in case its bad news, my dad had 2 triple bypasses and suffered  with angina so every time he went to see his doctor  about heartburn they put it down to angina and missed the oasephagal cancer till it was too late , so im really scared of telling my doctor in case its bad news .

They say 10 years is the average, but with your history it could have been damaged sooner.

I'd get into the GI and ask for tests to check and see if it has failed. I had a much easier time with my redo recoveries than my initial surgery.

Thanks for the reply bill, I'm new too this internet stuff so please excuse the fact I'm rubbish lol, I will go and see my doctor just scared after seeing what my late dad went through, wil I have too have the tube down my nose into my stomach too test for the reflux like I did before my first lap nissens ?, as I found that 24 hours awfull

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  Glad you've found our online community. It’s a great place to connect with others traveling the same road...you'll find much support, encouragement and advice from others who understand.

 

I understand your fears of seeing a Dr. and going through many tests.  Try not to let your mind wander to the what-if thinking and stay in the moment.  Take this one step at a time as often what we fear the most never happens.

I am sorry your Dad went through so much and my heart goes out to you as my Dad did the same yet nothing could have saved him.  He had cancer.

You, my new friend, are not rubbish.  Every single member here was one time a new member on a forum.

Any questions just ask and one of us will explain how things in the forum work.

I got to agree with Kitt, as usual! You are not rubbish. We have all been there before.

Unfortunately a 24 hr PH study, manometry, and barium swallow may need to be done to determine what is going on. Not a fun time, but needed to get the correct assessment.

Hello joy I had my operation 13years ago and heartburn started up again 3 years ago. Like you my dad died of oestophageal cancer and I was worried stiff. I plucked up courage, had the required tests and most of my problem is that the walls of my oestophagus are not pushing food down properly. The fundoplication is fine just slightly tilted so I may have to have a re-do but I was told by my Consultant that I have no more of a chance at getting this type of cancer than anyone else. So please go for the tests they will ease your mind, worrying is using up your energy. Take care from Rita

I would say that you should discuss with the doctor so it does not get worse. Praying for you that all goes well.
