I'd rather not be one of the 60 though - I shall stop taking it for a few days see what happens with the reflux.

Not that I trust the US FDA (I don't) but domperidone is not approved in the US.

I've been on domperidone for about 3-4 years and haven't experienced any adverse effects. Metoclopramide, on the other hand, did not get along at all with me (not to mention the tardive dyskinesia risk!). It was a blessing to be able to get domperidone in the UK.

I wonder if in the long run this drug is any better than the PPI's as with speeding up the digestive process you are not allowing your body enough time to digest the foods. I'm sure you'd get more food digested properly with this as it doesn't suppress stomach acid, but I wouldn't believe that you'd get the same amount as if you'd let your body digest it naturally. And I also see that this drug seems to do the same thing as masking the symptoms which still doesn't solve the underlying problem. But I guess in the end it always comes down to the side effects of the drugs and if you'd rather deal with those than with no medication at all. I wish doctors were more about fixing the problems instead of handing out drugs that make the patients feel better until they don't seem to work anymore, or just hand out other drugs to mask other symptoms as they start to show up.

As far as trusting any food and drug administrations, I'd find it hard to fully trust anything as there are too many companies out there that process both drugs and food that it is hard to regulate all of their factories. I'm sure they don't get audited nearly enough to make sure their processes are safe, and that we, the consumers, are safe consuming their products year after year. Perhaps our education systems should start investing more time teaching our children more about their health and eating habits to make their future's better. Can't seem to rely on a lot of parents because if the parents don't see any problems with it, why would they teach their children? I'm paying the same, or more some months, on my health insurance premiums than I am on food each month. And I have a high deductible on top of that.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have a way to find relief, but the fact that we put so much trust in our doctors and health systems that we believe our doctors when they say it's safe to take a drug, we do it most of the time without hesitation not knowing the full impact it will have on us, sometimes many years down the road. It's almost like we are gambling with our health and lives by putting full trust into doctors.
