Well, I must say I thank each & everyone of you for helping me prepare and recover from the surgery. This is a great forum. It was a year yesterday that I had the surgery. Here is my up-date. I lost over 40lbs within the first month. I put back on about 20lbs over the course of the year. I used to be a sever asthmatic I have not had an attack since the surgery. As a matter of fact I just recently went to the Allergist Specialist and was retested for all food, pollen, trees and such and of course I am highly allergic to everything outside, any foods that grow on trees....you get the picture. Well, it has been hazy, hot, humid and everyone around me is dealing with allergies...BUT ME. I sit outside, started back working out & I also found that I am allergic to gluten. Since finding all of this out...all meds are gone except for the migraines and Fibro 2 pill compared to more than 20 is a big deal. No inhalers no nothings...I love the side effects of the surgery...lol....I was NEVER able to enjoy the outside but now I can breath, eat, lay flat, put my head down when working out and all is well. I feel like a new person. I ever became a grand mother and finished my Masters Degree during my recovery.

Congratulations on your recovery.....I am one year and two months post Nissen and we have both had similar results.....no more Nexium, no more Tums, no more night episodes coughing up reflux. I should add, I didn't really resent having to take Nexium. In my case, it was provided free as part of my military retirement benefits and it served its purpose well. But it is nice not to have to take it anymore.

There are many people who's results have not gone so well and with their reported do-overs and continuing problems I sometimes wonder when mine will recur--it is like waiting for the othere shoe to drop. But for now, I thank God every day for my health.

Thank you very much for sharing your positive experience with NF! There are so many people with complications after the surgery that sometimes it is hard to believe that it still works for anyone.
People tend to share bad experience rather then something good. So your post is precious!

I don't want to mis-inform anyone. I did have complication after the surgery. I did end up having a second surgery 5 days later but not the NF. During the fist one a mishap happened which caused a second. We all should go in knowing that things can happen even with the most skillful doctors because as women we may have had other surgeries in our past (I had 2 C-section and 1 or 2 other surgeries) When I showed signs of complications (Yes, kept the same surgeon) I called her, met her at the hospital and showed her the pictures of what was happening. She explained everything that happened in detail to me and my sons. She and he hospital fixed it, allowed me stay in the hospital (30 days) and was on point with my recovery. My recovery from the second surgery was 1 month however, recovery from the NF was about 6 mons. I couldn't wear a bra for about 8 mons. (I read on this form about the bra issues). BUT when all is said and done I DO NOT regret having the surgery it has truly given me back my healthy life. No more 10-12 pillows including sofa pills to sleep, no more meds for the acid reflux, no more garbage cans by my bed for spontaneous vomiting, I can go out to eat without worrying. I am enjoying every bit of my NEW life style. Plus it has so far solved my allergies from birth issues. I am enjoying going outside and taking deep breaths and not coughing or sneezing. I have not coughed or sneezed for any reason in over a year. I thank God for the team of doctors and nurses I had but most of all my 2 sons who stuck with me. Be Blessed.
