Can Sneezing damage Nissen Wrap

Hi,

I am now on day 9 after my wrap and the healing process has been going well, I am following the prescribed diet, have not done anything outside of prescribed activities and then this morning I had a sneezing episode. Suddenly after the sneeze, I can suddenly burp again and it does feel as if food is going down much faster than this morning. I cannot help but assume the worst that I damaged the wrap or tore it loose.

Has anyone else had something similar happen finding afterwards it was still fine? Doctor says he can not do anything to determine of I damaged the wrap up to week 8 post-op.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I spoke to my surgeon just recently (my surgery will be next month most likely) about my concerns with the wrap coming undone or being damaged. I would like to get back into weightlifting after recovery, and I was worried this could damage the wrap. My surgeon assured me that nothing short of a car accident with direct impact on that area would be likely to do damage to the wrap. So, for what it's worth it doesn't sound like sneezing would cause any long-term damage to the wrap, but it may shift some things around!

I got a horrible cold a few weeks after my wrap. I was sneezing up a storm (and coughing) for a week and a half, and I had the exact same worries as you!

I just had my 6 week follow up today with the surgeon, and everything's fine. It was nothing to worry about.

Thanks Brianala and Altair for the responses... Just had my staples removed and the doctor also confirmed that it should not be a problem. My concern was simply the fact that before the sneezing I could not burp, but afterwards I could... I can still burp, but when eating I can clearly feel the restricted consumption rate of an in-tact wrap.

Day 11 and so looking forward to starting the soft diet on Monday and going off the soft liquids... I don't think I will ever eat jelly or soup again... ;-)
