Anyone recommend Upper gi surgeon Birmingham uk

I think there is a possibility that I will be needing a redo of my fundoplication. Can anyone recommend a good upper GI surgeon in Birmingham uk area?

Hiya Trotters, I can recommend one in Newcastle. Theres a team of gastro surgeons up there called NUGITS,they have a web site with all contact details on there. Barry

Mr audun siggurdson at Telford or mr paul super I think is in Birmingham . I haven't used them personally but their reputation as bariatric surgeons are excellent as well as being upper gi consultants on the nhs.

Hi Trotters,forgot to mention not all surgeons like to redo other surgeons work,i had trouble finding a surgeon for a redo in the UK. Nugits is NHS aswell. Barry

Hi trotters im having a re-do later this year but not with my original surgeon. I live in midlands and found my new surgeon by checking google. Good luck Rita

Hi mine lasted 9 years when problems started again. After a high resolution manometry it was found I have poor motility so my wrap will be a partial one to allow the food through easier.

My surgeons at Derby hosp, I know I am taking a chance its hard on nhs with all the waiting, but he seemed genuine and the only doctor in 4 years that believed how ill I felt when every endoscopy showed nothing. Whats your problem can I ask, how long since your op?

Thank you for your kind words perhaps someone else will come on board to advise you. This is a rotten disease, when people look at you they cant see how debilitating it is. I wonder if you need to give it more time it is such a long recovery more like years than months. Take care Rita

Hi Trotters,yes my redo went very well,i had a motility problem which was undiagnosed by original surgeon which caused a lot of problems.I ok now and off all drugs.It was a bit of a nightmare but I got there in the end.
Its all down to the surgeons experience and skill in my opinion. Barry

Hi virtually overnight following surgery all of my LPG symptoms disappeared. I had relief for about 10 days and then boom they have all come back with vengeance. I can feel the very familiar feeling of "something" travelling up when I lie on my back and on my right side. The burning, sore throat, post nasal drip and cough are all back to the same level as before I was put on lanzoprazole. I've read that symptoms can come back if the wrap isn't tight enough and people do normally get relief from the symptoms got a few days due to the swelling. Feel so disheartened, I really thought this was going to put and end to 8 months of sheer hell. I can understand why people feel suicidal due to this condition. :-(

Hi,are you sure its not just foods and liquids sitting in your esophagus? This can happen early after surgery because of swelling and of course the wrap being there.
Did you have a full 360 degree wrap or a partial? It sounds to early yet to looking for another surgery,you will need testing aswell. Barry

I pray and hope it would just disappear and it is just swelling but to be honest I've hardly had any discomfort eating or drinking from the offset. I've been able to burp almost straight away and have been able to take tablets no trouble since day one. I really have his feeling it has been done too loose. Id rather the discomfort of not being able to burp then at least id know it was tight enough. Due to see surgeon in 2 weeks fingers crossed my symptoms miraculously disappear or failing that I have further tests.
