Help...I live in calif. And have decided to c j. Koufman ......I've read the reviews up here.....I was told over the phone medicare will pay for part but I will be paying approx. 4,500 dollars out of pocket plus air and hotel expense....plus I have to wait until Aug. That's when I turn 65..for medicare my HMO won't pay.... My mother lives in fla. And I know there is a Cleveland clinic there....anyone ever been to that one for GERD and whatever else u can tell me.....especially more about koufman.....thanks

Here's my two cents......

Koufman: Most ppl either love her or well not so much. She focuses more on lpr then gerd, yes she may be more open minded to listen or even agree with you. She does a couple test that alot of other's do not. In the end she will NOT offer you anything that any other dr can or will. There is no magic there, some feel her diet helps (don't need an appointment to buy the book), whether it's meds or surgery (she's not a surgeon) your treatment will not be different. Just a side note Koufman had nissen surgery for her own gerd, to me that's kind of like going to a bald barber.

Cleveland Clinic in Fla: Is this a Mayo clinic? Fla, does have some very good medical care. If it's a large medical center I can only assume it has very good dr's. I would look for more info. on the clinic.

Bottom line: That's a ton of money to spend, again pretty much all dr's treat gerd the same. There's several different meds they'll all try. Surgery, make sure you pick a VERY experienced surgeon (Koufman doesn't do surgery). Go to a top large medical center in Fla and make the most of the time with your mom! You get a two for one......money well spent!

I am a patient of Dr. Koufma, as well as my husband and I swear by her. In fact my husband is in her office right now. For me the advantage of her, was that she was the only one diagnosed both of us correctly. For me it was over 30 years of suffering with a severe, choking chronic cough and seeing countless doctors. I am not so sure you have to spend all that money to see her now, with a lot more doctors more knowledgeble of LPR.

I have not had any surgery at all. I view surgery as a last resort and choose to try to control my gerd with meds and diet. Some days are better than others.....

Toritone......so u have decent enough insurance to be able to c her.....mine was for 2 days and all the test if I go..the $4,500thanks Andrea

My husband and I both, only pay our deductible for out of network benefits, and then she takes whatever the insurance is, but we made this agreement 2 years ago. I have heard the receptionist tell other patients/potential patients, that once the deductible is met, as long as they receive $950.00 they will accept that and not bill you the rest.
Curious if you called her office yesterday, because while my husband was there, the receptionist was talking to someone from California, trying to book an appointment.

Toritone......the receptionist said since I will be turning 65 and on medicare 4,500 would be the ded. From a bill of 12,000 for the two day stay.......thNks Andrea

I have to respectfully disagree with some of the posts about Dr. K on here. I no longer have LPR, and had every possible debilitating symptom you could imagine. Just read through my old posts. My throat went down to a 0 on her scale following her diet and protocol. Following that, I had a very successful pregnancy and experienced 0 reflux and have been in remission ever since.
