Hi to all,
I've not been here for awhile; so busy but I've been following each of your stories of progress. If this was covered by any of you and I missed it, I apologize. Has your surgery eliminated the acid reflux, chest pain, shortness of breath and fatigue that caused you to have this surgery in the first place?
Are any of you still taking acid controllers?
I have a 3cm hiatal hernia, defective LES, gall bladder removed 2009, and if I talk a lot, my esophagus gets so sore I can't talk or must lower my voice to 'soft'. I have been on PPI's (Nexium) for years and it never helped; only made me feel worse.
I'm preparing to see a new gastroenterologist Sept. 29th and yesterday, got ALL my medical records/scans/x-rays and details of procedures to take to my appt.
I've lost 25 lbs. intentionally and am trying to get in the best shape I can for a possible surgery. However, I can't do any sit-ups or crunches as they severely irritate my esophagus. Has this happened with any of you?
I know, I just threw a lot out there at you and I envy all of you having this surgery behind you now and on your journey through recovery. I understand that the recovery is no 'walk in the park' and all of your input has been priceless to me.
I'm not on Facebook (yet) as I just graduated to a 'smart phone' yesterday and still don't know how to use it, but PLEASE don't stop posting here yet as I need to know how ALL OF YOU are doing so I know what to expect, what to do; what NOT to do, etc.
I feel that after 6 years of 'suffering', this surgery may give me my LIFE back! I am 67 years old but my husband and friends tell me I look much younger; I'm an interior house painter so my job is very physical so I don't sit at a desk to work which will be a drawback and I will take the best care of ME as possible after surgery (if I'm a good candidate) so I can get back to work.
Thanks for reading; I will get here for your updates and wish all of you the VERY BEST and SPEEDY recovery.
Linda Sue
