Gastroparesis after Nissen (Slow emptying of the stomach)

This post relates to another post I made and decided to give it its own home for descussion. I havent seen a great deal of information on the subject and thought it would be informative to hear about other peoples expirences.

Has anyone had a Nissen and suffered from Gastroparesis. (Slow emptying of the stomach)

If so, please feel free to leave a little info about your expirences and eating habbits.

a little about me.

I had my Nissen 6 months ago, (I had occasional regurgutation) since the Surgery, I have acid and burning, and also near constant regurgitation of food. these last 6 months i was convinced the surgery had failed, After all, how could my relfux go from 20 to 120 after the surgery and was taking 30mg of lansoprazol and now need 80mg of nexium to control it.

The surgeon stands by his performance and has handed me down to a GI doctor.

He mentioned that my symptoms could be caused by slow gastric emptying, I had a barium meal and showed that the barium was not moving through my stomach as fast as it should. I first thought i got full quick and my limited eating was because of the Nissen reduces your stomach size? or at least thats what I heard.


anyhone else had this complication?
or perhaps it has rectified its self over time?

What is yor daily diet?

Also, If anyone that could recomend a diet for this problem please feel free to share as it could help people with this same problem.

My typical diet 6 months after nissen is.


2 crackers with patte in the morning.
a digestive or cracker at 11am
a sasuage and some hot drink at 2pm
Digestive buisquit at 4pm
some fish with a table spoon of penut butter for dinner.

Hi, Yeh i usualy reflux every few minuets with burning int he throat wheather I eat or not, sometimes i vomit into my mouth, then some days there is nothing, just a sour tatse.

Its kind of like a pressure that builds liek a burp, but then the food or liquid follows.
Ive never thrown up since the surgery, and only thrown up maybe once or twice in my life, I can burp a little. I had a partial wrap too.

The barium did show reflux, But the surgeon said that everyone refluxes a little after swallowing. He said that he might not have tightened it enough for me, but theres a risk of too tight, so he said he boutght it within normal range.

No there werent any onther tests that showed slow emptying, Just from the barium meal. but i can feel food stays in my stomach for a long time, and im full off a few bites.

Yeh, i heard about the vagus nerve being cut sometimes during surgery, I didnt have any slow emptying before the operation, I did allot of weight training, so I ate very often.

what other tests can they do to determine slow emptying?

my surgeon belives his surgery was perfect and has asked to do another PH test to prove it.

Ive had nothing but problems since the op, before it was an inconvinence, now its runing my life, I was 11 stone before the operation, now I am 7 stones in weight.

Oh, I thought that the x ray your stomach every 4 hours to see if the food has moved though.
Ive never heard abotu blowing into the tube.

Yes, my surgeon doesnt seem so suportive. he just told me he dosnt think its related to his surgery, which its hard to admit it, but i think it might be true. as im having all the horrible symptoms. Yeh, I wished I would have known all the finer details before, i got refered to a GI that was well known in the area, and then a surgeon that was said to be great. everyhting has just gone so wrong, Ive been waiting 2 years to be with my wife oversease and this illness has kept me here. I wanted to be in perfect health to be there, even did my visa ready to leave this month, but its just fallen apart. I dont know when ill be able see her again.

a week ago I thought the Surgery had failed, But now this might be caused by this complication. I was recomended a Surgeon from Newcastle in the UK, Dr Attwood who is aparentley a fantastic practitioner.
But I was just wondering weather or not he can help, since he is a surgeon and not a GI doctor.
