Hi everyone! I made it thru surgery. Now in my 18th day post op. Doing better than I thought I would be. The surgery itself went well, had my stomach brought down out of my chest and sewed back in place. Also, only a half wrap for the fundoplication. Looks like a hotdog in a bun. Then the surgeon stitched my diaphragm back together. Had a large tear in it. All permanent stitches, no mesh patches cause I had lost so much weight before surgery. WHEW. And then in recovery, I stopped breathing 3 times. I remember my husband shaking me, telling me to breathe. They called back the surgical and anesthia teams to figure out what was wrong. It was the pain meds. Finally got up to a room about
11:30 pm. Went into A-fib 2 days later. They got that under control, am on meds for that now as a precaution. I was in the hospital from Nov. 6th to the 12th. Longer than expected, but mostly NOT due to surgery. I am eating better, had some steak, tried pizza, chicken, and it's going down well. Very little nausea, and have not had a Prilosec in almost 9 days. That's surprising. Pain was not too bad, took some meds for about
3 days at home, but none now. Done laparoscopically, seven holes. Those are still sore, but not bad. Thanks for your support, it meant alot.
Lori, you had your surgery on the 19th. How are you?

Kayda I'm so glad you posted. I figured something out of the ordinary had happened when so much time passed. I'm glad you are on the other side and from what you wrote, sounds like great progress! Did the blood clot resolve itself?
I had my surgery on the 19th. I had a full Nissen. I stayed in hospital for two days as I was plagued with awful nausea. I've been home since late Friday afternoon and am still going slow on diet. Ensure has gone down well. Tried pudding this morning and I've been drinking warm tea. They sent me home with a ton of drugs for which I'm grateful. They want me to take anti nausea meds every 6 hours for 10 days, along with the pain meds. All in all I'd say I'm doing better than I anticipated. I've been walking very slowly on my treadmill the past 3 days, and today finally had some bowel action...although it was diarrhea I'm glad at least something made the entire journey thru my body.
Take it easy and try not to push yourself!

Hi Kayda,
I'm a bit past 3 weeks post op. I've lost nearly 20 pounds and feel reasonably well. I'm walking everyday on my treadmill to keep everything moving. Eating is still a challenge and I'm taking it very slow as I don't feel any need to rush through this. I am able to eat egg whites and soft cheese and most soups, well cooked vegetables and applesauce. I've tried a bit of meat and it was not happening so I decided to let more time pass. I had a terrible episode with a sweet potato...omg I thought I was having a heart attack... The pain took me down to my hands and knees and it was at least 15 min before it subsided. Lesson learned.... It can be super mushy in your mouth but if you have too many bites in a row..look out! All in all I'm happy so far.
How are you feeling? I know you had lots of other things going on prior to your NF. Is everything settled down? Hope that you are feeling well and are able to enjoy the Christmas season.
I'm having surgery on my hand on the 23rd for carpal tunnel. I figured I might as well go for it as I've reached my max out of pocket for insurance this year.
All the best to you
Lori
