My doctor only told me to switch to a high protein diet before surgery to shrink the liver. After surgery when I saw the pictures, I noticed that they had to retract the liver to get to the stomach, and then I understood why it would help to shrink the liver.
I could stand to lose 30 pounds, but he didn't ask me to do it before surgery. I think I have already lost 10 pounds post-surgery, and at the rate I'm going trying to even eat soft food, I think I'll succeed in losing at least 10 more.
I was also freaked out about the surgery, but it went smoothly. I didn't even take pain pills. I had purchased a bottle of liquid Tylenol beforehand, and the first day I took that. After that, I didn't take anything. The diet is definitely the hardest park. If you eat too much or eat the wrong thing, you pay the price and feel miserable.
