GERD with white coated tongue and it is not thrush

Hi all,

I wonder if gerd is the cause of the coating on the tongue or if the coating on the tongue is a result of something else (for example maldigestion, malabsorbtion of carbohydrates etc..) also contributing or causing the gerd.
I did twice an analisis of the tongue with two diferent labs in different countries and came back with normal flora every time, no thrush at all

Also some days more pink than others

Any thoughts?

hi,im seeing my gp tomorrow about a white tongue,ive only had it from i came out of hospital after gettin Nissen surgery.Dont know why ive got it,i was thinking it was dehydration at first but im drinking plenty now so its something more of a infection of some sort.Be interesting to see was doctor comes up with,i.ll let you know.Barry

Thanks JPT, it makes perfectly sense to me what you said, since I have had this white tongue since my problems with acid reflux began two years ago.
Also I have just been fired and my acid reflux increased big time so my white tongue

hello.. i have the same problem. Im suffering from gerd and experience white coated tongue. my doctor told me its because of the acid & meds im taking.

Same here, white coat on tongue that I've had for at least 4/5 yrs that I can remember. I believe it's caused by acid/bile/pepsin, I'm not sure which one if not all three. Now that you mention it, I guess it could be from the meds as well but I'd lean towards the acid/bile/pepsin.

Is your entire tongue coated in a white film, or just parts?

Hi,i seen GP today with a white tongue and he says its a fungal infection which i picked up while i was in hospital gettin nissen surgery.Gave me something called Nystatin for it,said it should clear in a week.Hope so! I will let you know if it works. Barry

A lot of it is, but it's the worst from the middle back. Mine is not thrush or infection.

Hi. I'm new and so relieved to others like myself suffering with this white tongue problem. In October 2014 it seemed to begin with acid reflux and I was diagnosed with a peptic ulcer. I've been taking dexilant daily since. Then my tongue began to sting and turned white and the pain went worse. I resorted to chewing gum and sucking on gjm at to get a break from the yucky taste from my tongue. My Doctor put me on Nystatin but so far (6 days in) I'm not experiencing any improvement. I'm beyond frustrated with this problem.
I have been reading past comments about scraping the film off my tongue and gargling with salt water several times a day as well as always cleaning my toothbrush with peroxide.
I welcome any feedback.
