Anyone this far out from Nissen?

My procedure was performed due to atypical silent reflux. Never had GERD systems however was suffocating from high volume of gastric acid dumping into my lungs.

Immediately post op, horrendous bowel incontinence and flatulence. Went on for a couple of years, subsided for a year or so but is back with a vengeance.

Was a social drinker, now a tea totaller. Had to give up my beloved beer due to inability to burp. Overall, not a bad thing.

Since surgery, most careful of amount of food eaten at any one time due to potential pain at the wrap site.

Seems no matter how careful I eat, bowel incontinence strikes. Middle of the night episodes are most common. Since November '09 Nissen, have lost 55 lbs. Needed to lose some weight but now having problem maintaining.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I had my surgery in February 2009. I did have some dumping syndrome during my recovery, and it lasted past the year mark. Sometime into the second year it stopped. If I really irritate my wrap, I can get a very mild occasional dumping episode...maybe as many as two a year. I've never had bowel incontinence, though.

I wonder if your wrap might be too tight. I have no trouble drinking beer. I actually could burp a little right after my surgery, and still do. Once wrapped, my stomach determines whether and when I burp. It can make some pretty big burps when wants to. If I don't burp, then things go through my system and out the other way.

I don't get pain at the wrap site unless I eat a LOT really irritating foods. It never lasts more than a day or so, though. I can eat what I want, and only have trouble when I get bloated, when isn't very often.

Have you gotten a second opinion regarding your wrap? Perhaps with some testing, someone can figure out why you're having such trouble. What you're experience isn't typical, and seems to be indicative of some sort of problem.

Happy to read you have very few side effects post Fundo. Amazed you can burp...good for you!! No can do...like you, exits the other end. Have so much flatulence by the end of the day, horrendous odor. Offend myself =)

My bowel incontinence started immediately after surgery...while still in hospital. Now on Welchol to help control. Kinda' helps. Dumping occurs two or three times/week.

Must eat a very limited/bland diet, eat often and extremely slow. Chew food to a liquid. Next to never overeat...leave the table still a bit hungry to prevent pain at wrap. Now at 60 lb. weight loss. Finding it difficult to maintain weight...a first in my life.

It is time for colonoscopy/endoscopy. Will have doc check wrap. A year or so post op, did have the wrap stretched since food would become stuck in esophagus. Sounds like wrap needs to be stretched. Don't know if that will help chronic dumping and incontinence...ugh.

Will let you know what doc finds during endoscopy.

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering such horrible side effects... Feel for you.

I really hope you don't mind me asking but what were your reapiratory symptoms prior to surgery? I suffer with atypical symptoms, mainly airways and sinuses I'm due to have a redo performed soon and I'm just wondering what your outcome was with regards to your airway stmptoms? Has that side been succesful? Many thanks

I am 3 1/2 years out from my wrap. I don't have dumping, but it did change my bowel. I used to be chronically constipated, and now I go more often, and sometimes need to find a restroom fast.

My issue is, I put on too much weight after?? My bloat and gas is so out of control. I've tried many things. I would do it all over again because I have no reflux, however I still have gastritis. I only get to burp once in a while, and usually only if I over eat at one setting.. It feels so good to do it, but I don't want to over eat just to burp :-)

I have irritable bowel syndrom, and I think it doesn't help with the gas. Have you ever been checked for IBS? It may be the root of your dumping problem. There is a drug that calms your bowel down. My friend takes it because she has dumping. Also, I think the surgery does impact the way the stomach processes food, dont care what others say, I feel strongly it does impact mobility issues in digestion

If you have not already, I would use a daily probiotic that has enzymes as well, it has helped me a bit. And maybe look into IBS??
