Alcohol after fundoplication

I am 18 and just had my fundoplication. I don't plan on drinking anytime soon. However, I am scared that I may never be able to drink again. And by that I mean not just a sip or two but be able to drink enough to get drunk. Say 6 months post op were you able to drink this way? Or ever? I know not to completely overdo it to avoid vomiting but still.

Of course you can drink. Outside of not being able to vomit, it's the same as anyone else after recovery, with the same side effects - bleeding varices, ulcers, etc. You're pretty young, so maybe you don't know, so google.

6 months isn't the end of recovery. You don't want to be heaving against your sutures and have to have surgery all over again. Most of us count more like a year for recovery.

Alcohol has effects on the sphincter in the esophagus. Drinking is just like taking any other drug. I'm sure you don't take a bunch of drugs that mess with that part where you just had that nasty surgery.

Im 6.5 weeks into recovery, I had my first single malt scotch mixed with diet dry ginger ale last night, well I actually had two, and no issues at all.

Yes you can drink and yes you can get drunk, however, if your going to consume that much alcohol be wary of gastritis as that can be very unpleasant when you've had the wrap done like we have. I have suffered with this a few times and it isn't pleasant.

You are responding to a thread that is over 5 years old, and the OP hasn't been active on these boards since then. Yes you can have alcohol post-surgery, just follow the advice of your surgeon.
