I sympathize. I had a large paraesophageal hiatal hernia - stomach shoved into chest in an accident. It hurt like the dickens.
Since my surgery, I find I do best on a mostly vegetarian diet. Not sure why. Beef seems the hardest on my stomach, and I do love steak! :(
If you don't like Miralax, try Benefiber (generic is cheaper) and lots of veggies. I eat yogurt too. Some brands are better than others - read the ingredients! Many big names are full of fillers, not milk. I'm lactose intolerant; Activia seems to be best.
I also find that eating 4 or 5 times a day helps. I take an occasional probiotic, but not daily.
Constipation for me is from pain meds. It can be bad, so keep taking stuff. Drinking lots of water really doesn't work. My kidneys work just fine on extra fluid.
Good luck with your appointment.
