First Time Eating Out In While

The last time I ate out in public was awhile ago so today when I found myself in this cute little restaurant I was abit nervous. I ordered an omlet with feta, no leaks or tomato. It came with tatertots and salad with vinaigrette both which I didn't eat. I had the omlet, tea and a milk shake. I know what a boring story but this was a big deal for me as the only three other times I have been out to eat this year so far has been very hard for me(I use to go out 1-2 times a week). I actually did ok for me today. My best friend wanted to do a lunch for my birthday next week and while I'm nervous I think I'm starting to feel better about it.

Did you have fundoplication for breathing issues as well? I forgot I think I read you were short of breath?

This is NOT a boring story! Congratulations on your successful outing! You made great choices and had a great experience. Doesn't it feel grand to eat out? I'd say you ought to plan for a birthday outing! Good going!

No surgery yet. I do get short of breath and while my gastro doesn't like to admit its gerd my pulminologist thinks it totally gastro related and thinks I should see a surgeon.

Thanks Janpeg. It was nice and nerve racking at the same time. I worry I am going to get sick or have issues with my throat while eating so that's why I get nervous. I just took it easy, ate what I was comfortable with and the relaxing tea helped.

Tea or whatever works. Tonight my hubby wanted pasta. I had prepared his favorite and had some in the freezer after my surgery three weeks ago and although it sounded sort of heavy, I thought, "okay, let's try it." Well, it was too much for me so I stood up and walked around sipping water while my mouthful settled and went down. At least I was at home when it happened but I sympathize with you being out. So, another lesson learned, right? You did what you needed to and all ended well. I am always with a glass of water these days since that seems to be what I need. You're brave to venture out. Soon, this will be our "new normal". You did well!

Thank you. It helps to know I can give it a try and if it's too much for me to handle I can stop. My fiancé is so supportive when we go out he didn't care at all that I just had the omlet and nothing else on the plate. Think I'm going to stay in on my birthday not that brave yet.

Hey, Lawchick - The first few times I went to a restaurant by my self. I was SO nervous! It was about 7 weeks after surgery. I had a hamburger. I ate extrememly slowly, and paid attention to my innards and throat. It went ok, but I felt stuffed!

Regarding your birthday; if you choose carefully what you will eat ahead of time, don't get in a rush or distracted by what is going on around you, and chew thoroughly, I think you will be ok!

Cake might be hard to handle, though....
