Welcome, new members.
Usually I would say that person should start their own page, but since you both have more or less the same problem it will save typing to reply once.
Apparently, to my absolutely non-doctor, not trained in gastroenterology opinion, you both might be having serious reactions to PPIs. It may be rhabdomyolosis, which is what happens to some people who don't tolerate statin cholesterol meds. Your doctor might be able to diagnose this, although it's a new finding and some doctors don't believe in it yet. There are lots of scientific studies - look up PPIs and rhabdomyolosis. Ignore blogs and forum posts. We're not experts, scientists or doctors.
If I had had your reaction I would have rushed to surgery asap - on the recommendation of my doctor! Instead, I was happy and not having reactions on my PPIs until I was in a wreck that pushed my stomach into my chest and I had to have the surgery.
Mtn laurel, I had the Toupet because of weak swallow (doc called it "wimpy").
manny_37, Barrett's is serious and doubling your meds would, I guess, make muscle symptoms worse.
[side bar - I can't take daily statins, but read a scientific study that said people who don't tolerate them may be able to tolerate a lower dose. I asked my heart doc and and now taking the lowest dose once a week. But that won't help if you need a HIGHER dose of PPI.]
Just my opinion, but in your shoes, I would schedule surgery with the best, most experienced and recommended surgeon in the area - as soon as I cold get in. Look up rhabdomyolosis and how it kills muscle fibers and harms the kidneys.
Personally I don't believe these surgeries will "last forever." I was told something like 10 years, but possibly longer. I'm at 5 years and still happy I had it done. There's a long recovery, but it's better than having dead muscles.
While you're waiting for surgery, is there any possibility of switching to a different type of acid reducer? It takes a long time to get all the tests and wait for a surgery date.
