How long does it take to see relief on these pills? Is this normal on Pantoprazole? A pill shouldn't make you feel worse right?
Help please :-(
I just realized I didn't answer your last question. As always, I temper my answers with "it depends". My 2nd gastroenterologist advised me, when he put me on Dexilant, was that I had a Grade B level of erosive esophagitis and that it might a month or longer before I felt any relief.
The first 4 - 5 weeks on Dexilant was tough for me because of two reasons:
1. Back then I didn't have my knowledge of nutrition that I have today, so I wasn't 100% clear on what foods to eat or drink. My GI doctor gave me some guidelines, but admittedly, I didn't follow them very well. And with the lack of detail, I thought I had plenty of wiggle room.
2. It took a few days for my body to get used to the drug. And PPIs can have some undesirable side effects in some people. For the first couple of days Dexilant made me dizzy (but not as dizzy as Nexium did) and I had cotton mouth despite the fact that I drank a lot of water. All those symptoms went away after a few days.
I didn't start feeling better until around week number 5. Now having written that, it's different for everyone. It depends on the grade level of your esophagitis, your diet, how you sleep at night, etc.
I hope you start feeling better soon.
