Sandy-
Those little ones sure know just where to put those knees and elbows to cause serious pain, LOL.
Glad you found a good sealing mask. When I was using CPaP I couldn't get anything to seal well. So frustrating.
Take care,
Bill

I had strangulated Hernia. The doctor asked for an immediate surgery as he don't want to make it more complex. The surgery was done in Shouldice hospital at Ontario.Surgery took nearly one hour. The pain has reduced.I just want to know is there a chance that this hernia can occur again in me, even after the surgery? I cant think of another surgery in near future.Does any one have any idea on this.I am quite nervous!

Hi Ann,
I don't know much about
strangulated hernias except that they really do need to be repaired immediately. Also don't know if hiatal hernias can reoccur. Sorry, I am not being much help! I am sure that other people on this forum will have some answers for you.
My surgeries were really a roller coaster ride. I found out later that I had thrown up in the recovery room. Also had some major heart problems - rate dropped to a very slow pace - during the surgery. Also was confused and kept trying to leave the recovery room! Oh, those poor nurses! The nausea must have caused the second hernia but it was not a hiatal hernia. The same surgeon repaired this but MISSED another hernia! I went back to my previous surgeon to have this repaired. After that things have been pretty good.
I was referred to an internist who said that the slow heart rate during surgery was from apnea and that I must have my bipap with me for any further surgeries.
Also found that the terrible coughing that I had for several years was caused by my blood pressure medicine! When that was changed the cough went away.
There are too many things inter related and we just don't know enough about
what the symptoms are. We have to rely on our doctors. I just wish I knew what questions to ask. Ann, you do need to talk to your doctor to find out if the strangulated hernia could happen again.
I am happy for you that your surgery is over and was a success!

Sandy where did you have your surgery? On the island or in Vancouver and how long did you have to wait?

I had my surgery at the Campbell River Hospital. I dont remember how long I had to wait but it was not an unreasonable length of time.

Hi again Kendrick,
Do you know where your surgery will be done
If I had it to do over I would ask for a referral to Victoria. Apparently there are 4 places in BC where the doctors do these surgeries more frequently.
My surgery in Campbell River has had problems and now has failed. I wish I had known about
the Victoria doctors before my surgery! I am not going to have the surgery re done but just learn to cope with the problems. Ask your doctor for a referral.
Good luck,
Sandy
