nissen fundoplication post 11 weeks update

Hello everyone,

Just to update you with my current situation and hoping to get some advises from you as well, about what to do Now!!!
I appreciate your time answering me, and put me on the right track.

I have completed almost I have completed 11 weeks post op (NF) and hernia repair.

Things been changed and I could see improvement with my eating as I could eat more but not as I used to be before the surgery still. No heartburn most of the time and less nausea, still experiencing bloating on daily basis , no constipation, no tiredness and more active , but i never feel hungry!! like I eat evey 4 hours like that !! but the sensation of hunger i don't have

Unfortunately I did not have a chance to get off the PPIs yet as I tried for 3 days and It wasn't good idea got more problems - reflux ( been taking PPIs for almost 8 years never missed one before)

I had a Pizza night 6 days ago and slept after 3 hours. Woke up middle of the night heartburn and pain in my stomach now I'm on PPIs Maximum does till my stomach feels better.

Still I experience chest pain daily I have no idea why im experiencing this after my surgery!!! Will this go away with time? And is this normal? Or might my stomach got gastritis due to anxiety!!! So that’s might why I have it .. No idea !!

So I moved to Toronto now for my study and things have got different after week 7.

Now I have developed some strange symptoms I don’t know , are they related to surgery or recovery or not!

I have an ear pain especially the right one and It has become more sensitive to the loud voices and sharp voices, It hurts sometimes, headache (pain) above the ears in the head area, hoarseness sometimes, chest pain, nasal post drip, thought cleaning sometimes, tongue burning often.

I searched about them and I found that are related to LPR, How come I never had LPR before the surgery, Is it possible you get LPR enen never actually had before the surgery or probably just an allergy?

Please give me advice what to do, Im here in Canada and I have no idea my surgery is all right or not! Shall I visit a doctor or surgeon to check thing out??

Did you have Laprascopic Nissen Fundoplication surgery?

I'm curious about you still needing acid controllers. So sorry you are having problems. I would follow Andy1986's advice. Wishing you the best.

Aziz, did you have the full 360 wrap? You are still in the early stages of healing. I too had a full wrap with hiatal hernia repair. My surgeon specialized in thoracic surgery and told me before hand that I would still be able to burp. A good surgeon can make the wrap loose enough to burp, yet tight enough to keep most of the acid in the stomach.

I believe those of us who have had a 'full wrap' need more healing time. You had major surgery and if you've read a lot on these forums, you know that full, complete internal healing takes 6 months to a year, or longer.

I'm at 7 weeks post-op and still have chest pain that I'm told is normal at this stage of healing (doctor follow-up on Aug. 17th). I have to be real careful with what I eat, how much, and my activity level. I overdid this week and am paying for it!

My 2nd and final meeting with surgeon's office gave me free reign to slowly go back to a normal routine, but even being back to work this week on a very limited basis, wore me out.

I'm sorry you don't have access to see your surgeon but perhaps you could call and talk to him about what is happening? I would think he'd want to know so he can help you. Perhaps he can refer you to the appropriate doctor in your new area.

Were you told by your doctor to keep taking the acid meds? My surgeon told me I wouldn't need them after surgery, but I took them right up to the night before. Perhaps the acid controllers are causing more problems?

You need a medical professional to either advise what happens next, or tell you that what is happening might be normal so you don't have all this worry and stress.

Good! You keep at it and we'll be anxious to hear some positive news! Don't give up, but DO take good care of yourself; you still have a LOT of healing to do.

Hi Aziz.. I am in my 4th week of post op (LNF) and I have not had one PPI since the surgery. I have had some chest pains but it seemed to be esophageal spasms related to how I was not chewing my foods well enough. If I chew right, I don't feel the chest pains. I had a loose wrap done so at this point I assume it was tight enough to stop the acid but loose enough that I can burp. I have just started to eat almost everything except heavy meats. I personally would not have the endoscope yet either, but that is me. Too risky as you are still healing as Lindasue mentioned. Maybe your stomach healing (getting use to the new stomach size) has not caught up to your LNF healing... I don't know how your medical works up in Canada but another doctor opinion would be warranted. Good luck to you.

I'd suggest doing the barium swallow but either way sounds like it needs to be redone. Have you been putting any pressure on your abdomen like heating pads or doing heavy lifting which might have caused the hernia again?

It might just be the way you sit or lie that puts pressure on it, but the surgeon should have put gauze or something around the diaphragm to stop this happening.

I would try another Dr and try to get a referral to a gastroenterologist and/or surgeon, as you need someone experienced to assess you and consider what options there are.

It's really scary and I'm not well mentally cuz of that.

  Now I'm very worried, and I'm thinking leaving Canada and delay my studies for another year.

My surgeon did NFL and hiatal hernia repair, however now I might have another hernia which is called paraesophageal hernia. 

The specialist said this is rare complication post major surgery. I hope this is not what happened :(  Still waiting for Ultrasound,barium swallow which will be end of next week.
