Thought I'd finally post something positive after my NF/hiatal repair, since for 9 1/2 weeks I was miserable and could barely eat. For the past 2 weeks only, I have been able to eat real food, not blended. I am starting to eat more as every day passes. Baby portions of Thanksgiving dinner last week, but at least I could eat something that didn't involve blending or liquid supplement. I hadn't been able to eat eggs, but I ate one several days in a row last week. Half sandwiches are tough. Still no carbonated drinks. I had to go out of town, and was starving, so I went to a restaurant and had a lunch portion salmon, potatoes and a little broccoli. First, I was served bread, and I got really worried I could get sick, so after a few bites, quit. I ate all of the salmon and potatoes. It was a huge triumph. I guess it took me more time than most. I still have to be careful, but I'm eating more. The food is actually going down. It's great! I was so close to having a surgery redo or removal just 2 weeks ago. I still can't say I'm happy I did the surgery. When you can't eat, it is frightening and depressing. People have talked about the esophageal pressure like heartburn. I had that, and it got less each week. I thought I was dying throughout the entire post op process, melodramatic, I know. I did not have good supportive, positive doctors until I got a second opinion. I know I'm going to keep getting back to normal, whatever that is. 11 weeks, 2 days. I still need Pepcid or tums every other day, but no PPIs.
