Nissen re-do, 2 weeks after original surgery

Hi all, I am two weeks out from my full lap Nissen (5 Nov 15) and found out this morning I have to get my entire wrap redone. It will either be wrapped a little looser, or my surgeon will do a 270.

The issue was I just couldn't swallow--anything. Even water would get stuck, and be very painful as it trickled through the junction. Don't even ask about food-I've not been able to advance past the liquid stage; but I can't even take pills that have been chopped into fourths. My surgeon, who is amazing and has been very attentive in my recovery had me come in for a barium swallow this morning and it revealed that it's just too tight.

I'm just feeling a little down because the past two weeks have literally been for nothing. All the time I took off work; all the recovery; it's all for nothing and I have to go through it all again. :/ I know it's for the better, I do. I'm just bummed. Hopefully this one works out, fingers crossed!

You poor thing, sorry to hear that. Best of luck getting the wrap loosened. One good thing about needing the redo this early is that you should have minimal scar tissue, making it an easier op than doing it on someone with a healed wrap.

I'm having the same surgery next week. My Doctor say's he likes to leave the wrap a little on the loose side because too tight and I may not be able to swallow such as in your case. He also said if the wrap is too loose it may not fix the GERD problem, however my hernia would be fixed. Actually I'm more worried about the hernia being fixed because that is causing more pain than the GERD. I'm praying the my Army Doctor knows what he's doing.

Just an update--I had my redo fundoplication surgery on 20 Nov. Prior to the redo I did a barium swallow and the results showed my esophageal opening at less than 1mm--not even liquids were passing through more than a trickle. This time around he did a 270 and while the pain was greater due to two back-to-back surgeries my recovery was MUCH quicker and eating progression is SO much better. Of course the amount of food I'm able to eat at one time is decreased; it seems like 1/2 cup of whatever is about the max before I feel very uncomfortable. I got the go-ahead to start working out (no weights, just cardio) at the two week point (4 Dec) and I am able to do so with ZERO issues. I am unable to burp, even small amounts. However, the fact that I've experienced no reflux issues is worth it. I'm so happy I had this done.

Just like my first surgery, my worst recovery days were days 3 and 4. I experienced nausea and dizziness/confusion and had to spend those days using my anti-nausea suppositories and sleeping everything off. My theory is that all the drugs started wearing off (I only took my Percocet for two days after) and I was having a bit of a withdrawal.
