Nissen Redo-

So after almost 3 years I am having severe issues with reflux again. Dr. Suggested I go for another Gastric Emptying study on monday just as a precaution. I have a appointment with the surgen next week that orginally did my procedure. (02.03.2013.) I was told my hernia is back and better and bigger that it was before. I need to have the Nissen done again because it loose and  my esophogus is all red and irritated with errosions again.

I am so scared this time. I feel like going in for the redo is 100 times worse. What are your opnions? It it worse? Has anyone been able to have it do lapo. the second time. Or is it always open. if open how long was recovery and how big was the insision. help please im terrified. and I feel terrible

I do not have personal experience but scintific literature says: "Redo fundoplication was successful in 93% of patients, and most could be safely handled laparoscopically."

So Odds are very good and almoost as good as in first surgery.

Sorry to hear that Tarachriso. I have the same questions about a redo (loosen/change) on the fundoplication. Mine was a year ago, but due to it causing severe dysphasia, they might have to redo. Due to a short esophagus, they might not be able to dilate. I'd also like to know if the recovery length is the same time and kind of restrictions?

Hi Tara I had re-do 13 years after first one both laparoscopitly, you will be fine and looked after
