Hi Frank,Welcome to the Healing Well
Wrapped Club!
I can see you've already gotten some great information from some of our supportive and helpful forum members!
Your worries are very common. It's the most natural thing in the world, and I think pretty much everyone worries about
reflux symptoms during recovery.
My surgeon told me that the esophagus is a dumb organ, and it interprets all pain as reflux. At 4 days post op, you're in the midst of the roughest part of your recovery.
Like you, I worried that i was having reflux, and spoke to my surgeon via phone. He told me that during the early stages of recovery, "pretty much anything is possible". I learned that the "reflux" sensations I was getting were most likely just pain. Still, I also came to understand that with swelling, it's possible that the wrap can let a little acid out, as it isn't as sitting snugly as it will once the swelling has subsided.
Some surgeons continue their patients on PPIs during the first months after surgery for their comfort, while others stop them before surgery or right after. It is a decision to be made with your surgeon. If your surgeon recommends PPIs for your comfort, do't worry. Once your wrap has settled in, you can stop the meds without the type of discomfort you had pre-Nissen when you had to stop PPIs.
I don't know if you've run across my early recovery journal, but just in case you didn't, here's the link:
