Hi Hoshie,
I'm not a doctor but can share from my experiences and what I've learned from others here. It could be reflux, or GERD, which causes the symptoms you mentioned. An ulcer, from what folks describe here, is terribly painful, but it doesn't seem that pain is an ongoing issue for you here. A hiatal hernia isn't always felt or symptomatic but, when it is, it can cause shortness of breath, breathing and pain difficulties upon exertion, chest pain, etc. A hiatal hernia can cause or contribute to GERD, too.
You may wish to speak to your doctor about reflux. The acid in your mouth seems to align with reflux, as does the burping and the sternum pain. They can so some tests to determine the severity of your reflux or GERD so as to provide you with an appropriate and effective plan of action. Many of us have been through the testing process and some folks find huge relief with the right medication combination.
I wish you well -- and keep us posted here!
