Hello,
I thought it would be beneficial to post my time-line of events. This was the initial reason I joined this site, but I have learned so much more! I joined the day my GI recommended that I see a surgeon about having Nissen Fundoplication surgery.
First, here is my back story...
I am a 38 year old male. Live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have had GERD since my late teens. Have had non-dyspepsia Barrett's for the last 8 years. Scoped every year since BE diagnosis. PPIs for half of my life!
On to the timeline...
February 4th - routine GI appointment. Explained that I was sick of being on PPIs that did not 100% work. He recommended that I see a surgeon. Gave me the name of a very respected and a very in demand Dr. (Blair A Jobe)
March 24th - This was the first available appointment with the surgeon. Waiting 7 weeks for an appointment was a little nerve wracking, since I knew that there were several tests that had to be prescribed and he had to be the one to prescribe them. A day before the appointment, his office called to reschedule due to a conflict. I kinda flipped out and demanded that I see someone in his place. They offered for me to see a partner of his instead. I agreed and went to the initial office visit. I figured I can see anyone there that can start all of the testing so at least that ball can start to roll.
April 4th - Manometry test. Well that sucked! lol. Not pleasant, but from what I read on here, I was able to get through it easily.
April 11th - EGD with 48 hour Bravo PH monitoring. I have had this done before, so I knew what it was all about.
May 12th - Follow up with surgeon to go over test results. Manometry was excellent ("perfect motility"). Bravo=HORRIBLE. My Demeester score was 94. Is that even possible? He said 14-15 was bad! Long story short, he said I was a perfect candidate for a full wrap. Met with his nutritionist for a while to go over the diet (which I am familiar w/ thanks to this site). Next up was scheduling the surgery and to go over pre-op instructions.
June 7th - Surgery day! I will try to post after.
4 months and 3 days from initial visit to surgery. I know that this can be dramatically different based on several factors, i.e. location, insurance, availability, the list goes on and on. Let me know how this timeline compares to yours.
