How were you diagnosed with GERD, have you had an endoscopy done, did your doctor suggest any medication? Unfortunately, anxiety makes your symptoms feel worse, and you shouldn't have to fear for your life. You are not alone, and many of us suffer from similar symptoms. I suffered with GERD most of my adult life, and I'm 54. We are not doctors here, but can offer advice on our experiences. My suggestion would be try and get your anxiety under control, going to the ER gets old and can be quite expensive. You need to go to a gastro doctor and have an endoscopy done to see if you have any stomach inflammation (gastritis), and they can check for H. Pylori bacteria. He may also suggest having manometry testing done to measure your swallowing function. Another suggestion would be to keep a food diary and see if you can identify foods that make your symptoms worse. You can also do a search on GERD diets and try some of those.
