Mineral Depletion PPI use

Has anyone suffered from this after being on PPI's long term. I went back to the doctor and they think I am nuts but I see it posted all over the internet. My main symptom is muscle pain that is worse then any pulled muscle I have ever had. It has gotten a little better in two weeks since it started up but it is still is limiting my mobility.

Is there anyone out there who has had it and can you recommend some treatments.

Of course I cannot diagnose what is going on with you. That being said, mineral (calcium and magnesium) depletion is common with long term use of PPIs and this could be a side effect you are experiencing.

I looked for a way to get around this depletion and I found a magnesium lotion (Amazon) that apply everyday to my legs and arms. It seems to do the trick. I use it before bed because like magnesium, it will kinda make you sleepy so it's a good thing. There is no such transdermal calcium available but you could try the liquid kind which is more absorbable.

I went on Amazon and bought the cream and during lunch went and bought the liquid calcium. I appreciate the advise. Hopefully it helps do the trick. I will keep you posted on my results.

VitB 12 is also not absorbed on PPIs. You can get the sublingual kind at a health food store. It dissolves under the tongue.

Hilly Girl I am still waiting for the Cream to come in from Amazon but i started taking the calcium on Monday night. I take it a.m. and p.m. and am noticing a difference. As i type this post i notice it does not hurt to type this post. The pain i was having was in my left rib in the muscles surrounding it. At the time this happened i did not correlate it could be the PPI's. I went to the doctor and then a couple of days later urgent care. Between going to the doctors and urgent care I was reading the side effects of PPI's. I brought the bottle and showed it to the urgent care doctor and he said i need to be on it long term for it to cause mineral depletion. I have only been on them a month and i think people react differently They took x rays and could not find anything and gave me pain meds. and told me to rest.....Definitely feeling better today

That's wonderful. Now if we could all just get this GERD thing under control without meds, it would be great. Take care.
