Hi guys,
I have had acid reflux (sort of) and chronic regurgitation for the past 4 years. I am now finally taking the step to get Nissen Fundoplication surgery. I am scheduled to have the surgery on Oct. 11th, but I am also having second thoughts. I am 23 years old (these symptoms started when I was 19). I am worried because I feel like my symptoms aren't a severe as everyone else's. Every time I drink water, it will come back up after 30 seconds. I dont experience any burning sensation, although I know that there is acid coming up because I have to some degree esophagitis (confirmed by 3 endoscopes) and my throat hurts when I breathe in too hard, or press on it. If I overeat, I will burp up pieces of food, and I will burp every time I eat, regardless of whether I eat too much or not. When I am hungry, I experience really painful pressure in my throat and I burp a lot. That is the extent of my symptoms. When I spoke to the surgeon, he said that I has a really good chance of successful outcomes because I am 103 pounds and most of the time, failures are due to the extra weight on the wrap. He also said it is a very good idea because I am so young and have the rest of my life to expose my esophagus to acid. I have tried any PPI you can imagine, but I still regurgitate every liquid I put into my stomach. It is uncomfortable but I also feel like I can live with this symptom, but I also dont want to wait until it is too late and I develop complications when I am odler. I have researched my surgeon online and he has amazing reviews. I am going in for a consultation a week before the surgery so I wanted to ask him how many surgeries he has done. Can anyone tell me a good number for the amount of surgeries, I want to make sure my surgeon is experienced enough. Any other advice would be helpful as well.
