Hi kevinla,I've never spoken to a GI doc regarding how much Carafate suspension (in that case it would HAVE to be the suspension version, as it's the only thing that coats the throat as it goes down) would help LPR symptoms.
I suspect it could help some. Obviously the throat is coated as well, and my GI doc said that after 10 minutes or so the coating has stuck. He said that he can see remnents of the suspension when he does an endoscopy even after quite some time.
I guess if your LPR symptoms are ONLY throat related it might be worth a try. Obviously it's not going to help with the larnyx or lungs. I think the longer span of time between the Carafate and eating or drinking the better. Maybe just try it at night and see what happens.
The nighttime dose is the easiest. When I'm having some reactive stomach problems (since my wrap was created from my reactive stomach, it's affected as well), I take a dose before bed, then in the middle of the night or very early morning when I wake up, (taking note of the time so I don't take meds until 2 hours after), and it helps a lot. Since you're not eating and drinking during your sleeping hours, I would suspect it would coat your throat and esophagus even better.
Hey, worth a try. I wonder if you could get a sample?
Good luck,
Denise
