My consultation is Thursday and I can't wait. What questions should I ask the surgeon besides the ones off the top of my head... recovery, diet, length of operation?
Also, I want to ask if they can check my gall bladder. I've been having sharp pain behind my left shoulder blade on and off all day. I already suffer from a shoulder injury but I googled and it says gall bladder can cause that tour of pain too.
Any suggestions or feedback is welcomed.

just be carful and look into all your options, if your heart burn is manageable I would reconsider doing this. This surgery is a life long decision which has helped thousands of patients but when a surgeon is manipulating your stomach things get shifted and theirs always a risk. I had mine done 2 months ago and granted im still healing, but I would not have done this surgery considering my gerd was not that excessive. however everyone is different, look into your options, i.e. linx, for gerd.

No my GERD is pretty bad, guess UI to mid esophagus plus I have a large hiatal hernia. Just last night, dozed off and acid or food came up, I quickly ran to the bathroom. Went into coughing choking feeling and threw up everything I ate for dinner, sorry TMI. This has been the 2nd time this week already that I've thrown up from GERD or really because when I eat the food is just sitting in my chest.

Before you consider surgery, I would get the testing done on your gallbladder, to make sure you don't have anything else going on. Have you had any other testing other than endoscopy, such as barium swallow, Bravo pH testing and manometry? You need to have all of this done to see if you are even a good candidate for surgery. Make sure you educate yourself on the recovery from this surgery, it's not easy and surgeons don't give you a lot of information regarding what "may" happen after surgery. I missed two months of work, and I didn't start to feel better until around 6-months post-surgery and back to my "new" normal at about
a year. Make sure you find out your surgeon's history with doing Nissens, and I strongly suggest a second opinion before you make any decisions.
Good Luck - Sharon

Had endoscopy, barium swallow. Now surgeon wants me to do the motility tests. Here days he will do a floppy loose Nissen but sometimes he may decide to stitch stomach to abdominal wall. Here also said because of my age there always the chance the wrap may move because the stomach stretches over time. Ahead a chance that I may need to have it down when I'm older. So looks like I won't be getting surgery until late November or December. My insurance usually takes longer than others to approve motility testing.

ok good luck, sounds like your symptoms were much worse than mine. I suggest you also look at alternative operations, i.e. the linx.

What is the link? Ok, I googled Linux. Honestly I am not keen on having anything implanted in me. That's just the paranoid side of me. Too often implants, parts, etc are recalled.

If your GERD is pretty bad and your surgeon is experienced. I would personally do it.

Yes it's advanced plus a large hiatal hernia. He did say he believes most of the problems are caused by the hernia. He was very honest about
the risks with difficulty swallowing things like that. Also about
stitching the stomach down. He'll be able to determine what's best after the motility tests.

I would also check into your insurance coverage. Make sure you know what your deductibles are and coverage for the surgery and hospital stay. Some hospitals require that your deductibles be paid upfront, before surgery.
Good luck with the motility testing!

I am feeling so tired and fatigued. Once again I rushed out of my sleep to the bathroom 3 times coughing and vomiting from the reflux. Obviously none of my food gets properly digested with the reflux because when I throw up it looks like while. Sorry tmi. I'm extremely tired right now. I wish I could get this surgery without the motility test. I made sure I didn't shack or drink too much after 10p. I usually fall asleep around 11 or 12. I ate dinner by 8. I have to sit totally upright after eating to get pressure of my stomach from middle of my chest. I can feel food just sitting under my sternum. I take the pantoprazole as directed. Just really tired of being sick every night if I fall asleep elevated or upright.
