rawjoy- awesome you corrected GERD yourself, naturally.
Thank you! I need to make an appointment to see the surgeon after the first of the year. I had a consultation with him last September, and was absolutely positive that all I would need was the hernia repair. After all, I had managed to fix everything without without their medication! It pretty much floored me when he insisted I still needed the wrap. I was not very accepting of that recommendation.
However, upon further reflection and reading, I realize that I don't have an "acid reflux" issue. Meaning that without the hernia and LES, I wouldn't be having any acid reflux at all. My problem is an anatomical one where normal acid production is just kind of sitting there and flowing back and forth without anything to keep it where it should be.
Over the years, I've learned your body can heal itself for many conditions. I've been able to correct high blood pressure with no medication, and address my clinical depression where I only take a minimal maintenance dose instead of struggling on various medications for years. There are instances medical intervention is the only real solution (ahem, like this one) and where I need to put reality before my stubbornness. Thankfully, I'm at peace with going ahead, even though I know it won't be easy.
