My lpr symptoms started almost 3 years ago after a terrible sinus infection. Treated with 3 rounds of antibiotics. I have seen an ent a number of times. He gave me omeprzole 40 mg daily as well is nosonex steroid nasal spray. No help. He checked my larynx and vocal chords via laryngealscope. No damage seen at all. I had a barium swallow showing dysmotility. Eventually ended up seeing a laryngologist who also saw no damage on vocal chords or in throat. Sent me for a high resolution manometry which suggested achalasia!! Tight les, not loose. I chose to go up to Chicago and see an achalasia specialist. He had me repeat manometry and also he did an egd and an endoflip. I DONT have achalasia based on his interpretation of tests done in Chicago. Noe I hate esophageal junction outflow obstruction. He is treating me with Prilosec 40 mg twice daily for 6 weeks. If no improvement I will do 24 hour multichannel ph with impedance. I was scheduled for that test but when first manometry showed achalasia my doctor here cancelled that test. Anyone else have a tight les with lpr? So confused

I am afraid that I have been misdiagnosed like you.
My problem started last May like you after finishing a strong round of antibiotics.
i had a manometry and a barium swallow with normal findings and I had a negative phmetry but I have abnormally many events of weakly acid reflux according to my impedance test

What are your symptoms? have you seen any improvement or change in your symptoms? I have read that sometimes LPR may precede achalasia and I am extremely worried, too.

What is esophageal junction outflow??? Is it sth with residual pressure??

In my case the LES pressure is low normal but the duration of LES relaxation is too short and I have read that this may happened in early achalasia. My doctor insists that I don't have achalasia

Hi Mary, My symptoms are sore throat, coughing, excessive throat clearing, and now in the past several months I have experience pressure in my chest radiates up to my throat and my ear canals. I'm not sure of the exact definition of esophageal gastric junction outflow obstruction. I do know that the latest manometry showed something called compartmentalized pressurization the lower portion of my esophagus and the lower esophageal sphincter which is the muscle between the esophagus and stomach. What are your symptoms and have they evolved?

Initially after finishing the antibiotics my symptoms were severe heartburn, lump sensasation in my throat, burping. All of them for first time in my life. I was diagnosed with mild gastritis and a tiny hiatal hernia. The barium swallow didn;t show nor reflux nor hiatal hernia...Weird...

(Heve you ever had an endoscopy?)

After taking pantoprazole for one month the heartburn subsided but not the other symptoms. My symptoms were aggravated. I had cough and I was coughing bile, hoarseness and throat clearing especially after eating, severe and unbearable chest pain, rinitis and ear pains, severe shortness of breath
I stop the medications in order to do the phmetry and impedance test.
Then the doctor told me PPIs were wrong medication in my case and prescribed me riopan gel and a prokinetic drug.

The lump in my throat has subsided but now I have severe waterbrash, excessive saliva in my mouth constant swallowing, very white tongue because of the excessive amount of saliva. I have sometimes chest pain in the morning and my symptoms worsen during my periods ( i don't know if you are a girl)
I also have soar throat if I eat sth very sweet like chocolate.

When did you have your First manometry? What treatment options do you have according to your doctor?
In my opinion you should have th eimpedance test in order to find out what kind of reflux do you have.

I have no acidic reflx but weakly acidic and a little bile. Last AUgust I was desperate now I am better but not normal. I am very depressed though and tired of this condition....I am not normal as I used to be before taking the antibiotics

do you have any improvement any news?

Today I had an episode of severe chest pain which radiates on my back and my ribs. I had to take a painkiller instead of taking xanax whιch is a muscle relaxant too. I was given sometimes in hospitals emergency when I had chest pains

On Monday, I am having an appointment with my doctor. I am sure that I have a non specific motility disorder according to official classification.

I have 88% preserved peristalsis, one simultaneous contraction and the most severe in my opinion complete LES relaxation but of extremely shortened duration mean duration 0,8 seconds when normal is between 5-10 seconds. My LES pressure was low normal and normal residual pressure. 86% LES relaxations normal is 90-100

I'm actually feeling better. My symptoms are all improving on the omeprazole. I'm also trying to stay away from acidic foods and beverages that seem to cause my throat and mouth burn. I'm thinking I must have pepsin in the tissue of my mouth and throat and anything going down or coming up activates the pepsin. I read that somewhere but don't remember now exactly where. I'm also chewing gum after meals which seems to help me not clear my throat. Do you take any ppis? I'm thankful to God I'm better. Praying the medication heals everything in there and eventually I can get off the omeprazole.
