My Journey so far coming off of PPI's

Hi Group,

I am hoping to get some advice from everyone here. I have stopped taking my PPI's about a month ago because of a lot of the negative things I have read about them and I was starting to get weird muscle pains all over. I would like to know your story and what has helped through the process of coming off the PPI's. I was on them for the last 3 years consistently and off and on for about 3 years prior to that.

Experience so far:

Week 1 was my best week. I think I still had some of the PPI in my system and the heartburn didn't strike as bad.

Week 2. I started having to take baking soda daily. It's the remedy that seems to cure my heartburn the best. During the week when I go to the gym at lunch I get bad heartburn and after that a flare up daily after dinner.

Week 3. Relapsed on the weekend took 1 PPI pill and it made me nauseous which is a feeling I get quite often after meals these days anyway.

Week 4. I tried apple cider vinegar with a little bit of honey. It surprisingly helped. I wanted to get off the daily baking soda because of the high sodium content and it was starting to give me stomach pains after administration. I managed well on just ACV and tums for a couple of days until I broke down due to work stress and had a couple glasses of wine (trigger for me).

Currently I have also added a probiotic and DGL supplement to my daily routine. I am hoping soon the rebound affect will get some what better. I am also debating taking one PPI on Monday and one on Friday every week to see if that will help control the reflux without having to take it daily. I have also been eating 70 to 80% clean.

Any tips or suggestions for a guy?

Hi Young. I am also getting off ppis. It takes a timei. I was on omrprazole for 10 years. And I started tapering off in may of last year. So its gone take a while. You have to taper off little by little. I was on 40 MG's and as off today I am on 10 MG's. Maybe in anther 2 weeks I willtry yo taper to 5mg. Also I take DGL and a little zantac and probiotic. Remember I was on ppis for 10 years so my body has been fighting all the way. That's why it takes time. Let us know how you're doing. You're doing everything right thou

I think you are being a little harsh, most Forums have a lot more views than replies. Some people read each thread, even though it doesn't apply to them, thus no response. You can certainly use the search engine and read the other threads regarding PPI tapering.
