Hey everyone,

I have been having an upset sore stomach since around September. My doctor prescribed me 40mg of omeprazole.

In February I started to get an insanely sore throat. There were lumps and it was extremely red. My doctor kept me on the omeprazole and then I was scheduled for a scope.

I had the scope done and it showed esophagitis and gastritis. My doctor still wants me to stay on the 40mg of omeprazole and that's all he keeps saying.

Can anyone help me?

My main issues are...

I have developed constant diarrhea

I have a sore stomach randomly but also when hungry. Like it wants to make a noise but can't. It sometimes does make a noise and that feels good.

I have frequent loss of appetite, I literally can't look at the food.

No heartburn.

I have a sore throat everyday. After every meal my throat hurts and sometimes it will just randomly hurt.

It feels as though there are cuts in my throat. Sharp pains.

I also will spit blood at some points in a week. Hasn't happened for a few days.

Can I have all this without gerd? Or is it gerd? Or LPR?

What tests should I ask for to he done because my doctor just says omeprazole 40mg.

When you say you don't have heartburn, do you mean your stomach doesn't ache?

Thank you for your reply, My stomach aches and I have a constant sore throat but no typical heartburn like the burning sensation people talk about. Nothing behind the breastbone.

Have you or your doctor considered it might be a side effect of the Omeprazole? I only suggest it because after a year of being on a PPI I developed a lot of similar symptoms to you. I have no idea if it was the medication or withdrawal coming off it (or both), but I have been sick, sometimes bedridden, since he end of February.

Diarrhea, sore throat, dizziness (light headed) and shakiness, rumbly-gurgly constant unsettled stomach and a ton of gas. It's only in the last week getting better and I think it's now because I'm two weeks off the medication and sticking to food that doesn't trigger acid. Alkaline food like almonds and almond milk is helping me with symptoms believe it or not ( I know it sounds crazy but it's true!)

So far a zillion medical tests have been negative. I haven't been scoped yet. Waiting on CT results.

I hope you feel better soon! I'm convinced I ended up with gastritis or lpr or both because of a mixture of having a stomach flu and the PPI. At least talk to your doctor about it if possible. PPIs are a godsend to some, but way over prescribed to everyone else. Just my opinion.

I couldn't agree with you more. I do think it could be the ppi but my doctor tells me to keep taking them so I don't want to stop.

It's annoying, I want to see a GI so bad but it will probably be months before I get to.

I understand. It can be very difficult when your doctor is helping advise you but the solutions seem to contradict her/him or is confusing. When I just saw the new gastro doc I was so glad he didn't just tell me to start up on PPIs again... it was one of my fears that he would just dismiss my symptoms as something my PPI had been helping. Thankfully he is more interested in figuring out my problem than getting rid of me quickly!

If there are long wait times to see a new GI doc get on it now... I know it's frustrating to wait but better to have the appointment and end up not needing it rather then need it and not have it.

Yeah you're right, I have a GI appointment made but I don't know when I'll get seen. I might go private to an ent for just a consult. Then switch back to public if procedures are needed.

Sounds like your GI was really good.
