Hey PodMan, I had more bloating and other symptoms (which I won't list as I don't want to put any ideas in anyone's head) on my PPIs. I stayed on them for a month, and did not improve with my original problem of not being able to swallow solid food.
After a month of being on them, an endoscopy biopsy did not show any ulcers but an agitated throat. I stopped taking the PPI's and now after three weeks a lot the symptoms that occurred on the PPI have disappeared.
I have not tried the betaine HCI. I myself would worry about
that, as I'd imagine when I re-fluxed, that stuff would come up into my throat. I think too, that previous lifestyle choices (eating late, drinking tea) and anxiety (worrying constantly about
reflux symptoms) are aggravating the reflux in my situation, and messing around with my stomach (by taking away acid or adding it) will not help me heal. Instead I'm focusing on diet and lifestyle changes (to reduce GERD/anxiety)
Sorry I can't really answer your question. I just personally think ingesting HCI or Apple Cider Vinegar is a bad idea because it may all end back up in your throat.
Good luck with your Endoscopy. It's an easy procedure, and while I wouldn't say I enjoyed it, the sedation they gave me sure made me not think about
my reflux for once
