Is there someone who had the throat pain after their Nissen I could visit with?

I had the Nissan four months ago. I don't recall having throat pain that interfered with eating.
I had other issues that kept me from advancing up the diet food chain for what seems like an excessive time. So some of us do take longer. For example I was on liquid diet for the first six weeks and lost 35 pounds in that time. I had gas bloat syndrome and a lot of nausea.
I would talk to a doctor. Either the surgeon, or have your general doctor refer you to a gastroenterologist.

I agree, about
speaking with your surgeon's office - have you had your follow-up appointment, yet?

I spoke with yesterday during my office visit. He seems to think its related to
irritation and the esophagus is sending a pain message that its relux. He even allowed me to increase my diet a little.

That happens a lot after surgery, having pain that feels like reflux but it is not. Just don't try and rush your recovery. When you increase your diet, if you have issues, back off and try again in a few weeks. It's basically trial and error

It sure gets frustrating. I'll do well for a bit, then it starts all over again. I don't know
what I do wrong. I basically eat the same thing all the time. I keep reading that a lot of people have these symptoms after a Nissen. But I also read the complications that others have had too! I did have a barium swallow, but showed no abnormalities. At what point should I start to feel better?

thru out this recovery, you will have small steps forward. more sideways, than you will ask for. and some backwards. we all seek, the new normal individually, and it will be, very hard at times. you just try, not to lose to much of yourself, going forward.

It is very hard at times. In December I was able to trial more foods than now. I hate eating out. Its a nightmare. It never fails that a spice was put in my meal...even if its just a baked potato. Then I suffer for days to weeks and start all over again. I am trying to find something that is comforting to the throat. What has helped for you? Herbal teas with honey help. I even have tried aloe vera tablets, but didn't notice much difference. Reading everyone's advice does help. I try not to look at the horror stories. Thanks for your help!

To join the cancer forum. My LPR turned in to laryngeal cancer in spite of the
fundoplication. It has been very hard to deal with. Luckily it was caught very early. Don't mess with LPR for too long.

Thanks for responding back. I had a nissen this year and previous to that dealt with LPR for 12 years. I'm responding well to the surgery. Medication worked ok for me previous to the surgery. My motivation for having the surgery was mainly to stop PPI use, hopefully preventing any problems from long term use, and to keep acid from migrating up into my throat and larynx. You've reminded me to keep close tabs on my condition and health.
Sorry to hear of your diagnoses and glad it was caught early,
-Mark
