Info Please

I've not be dx'd with GERD and I'm not sure my sx are even GERD related. I have MS and have been having a lump-feeling in my throat, with slow to nearly impossible swallowing. My neuro is sending me to the cancer center here to eliminate possibility of tumor, before he proceeds with treating this as yet another possible MS symptom. When the insurance got involved, they called this requested test a GERD test and rejected it since GERD hasn't shown up on any of my doctor's paperwork.

My question is this: Does an intermittent throat obstuction, much like the feeling of a large pill stuck in your throat (in my case very low on the right side), with difficult (not painful) slow-motion swallowing sound like GERD? I've yet to find this description in the GERD info I've read. Because the obstruction feeling comes and goes, with no clue as to what triggers it and/or turns it off, my neuro is skeptical it could be a tumor. However, better to check it out, right? I have no digestive issues, other than eating a huge meal, falling into bed, and waking up within an hour or so not feeling too well; so logically that's not something I do. My main complaint is this "stuck pill" feeling, making swallowing difficult. It's not entirely bad -- I've lost 18 lbs, and since I've got another 18-20 lbs I could live without, I'm not overly concerned at this time. This started quite suddenly in July and has become a nuisance more than a health issue in my life.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I'm going Tuesday for the swallow test so we'll see what's going on.

Usually when I need to see a doctor for unrelated MS issues, once they see MS in my records they're reluctant to pursue anything. It's as if I'm a great big kootie bug. "Oh, hmmmm, you've got MS? Well, this problem (no matter what I might be there for) could be MS related. Go see your neurologist." Geesh, why didn't I think of that???

So I'm hoping I get a thorough and unbiased assessment of my throat complaint.
