Post op check in

Everything seems to have gone well yesterday. Came home yesterday, so I didn’t have to stay overnight. I was pretty uncomfortable yesterday. Apparently my stomach had been in the thoracic cavity so long that they had to detach a fair amount of connective tissue. I didn’t even know that was a thing. The expected shoulder pain comes and goes. Also, I seem to have air trapped under my skin from the shoulders up. It sounds like rice crispies when I rub my face or neck. It seems to have lessened somewhat today. I am trying not to take the prescription pain meds unless I really have to. They gave me zofran for nausea but I haven’t had trouble with that at all. One of my cats loves to lay on my chest and so she is very mad and confused. I can’t pick her up because she weighs 14 pounds. Lol. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience so far!

I am glad to hear you're doing well. I am just three weeks ahead of you with my recovery. I also had the air trapped under my skin, it's called crepitus. Don't worry, it goes away quickly but feels very odd.

I am surprised they didn't keep you overnight, I stayed for two days.

Hi Volcanomom, glad to read that you are on the other side of your surgery. I am sorry that you are alone, wow. You know every time I have had surgery, I always felt a little blue for a about a week afterwards. I have read that a lot of time it's the anesthesia that makes us feel this way. Hopefully someone will be coming to check on you.

Please remember to get up & walk around in the house. Try to do this every couple of hours, it's really important. I had to laugh about your plump cat, lol. My son had a Maine coon, Freddie was a big boy. He had such a big head but he was beautiful, but not a friendly cat to other people.

Thanks Susie! One of my cats is, in fact, a Maine Coon. So far so good on the recovery. I haven't used pain meds in a couple of days so maybe I will go see a movie tomorrow.

I spoke a bit too soon on the pain meds - had to take some tonight because my diaphragm/chest area is pretty painful tonight. Yes, the crepitus was gone by day 3 hank goodness! I am so excited to move from liquids to soft diet tomorrow!
