No PPIS working?

Anybody have peroids in time like months,when PPI'S,just dopnt seem to work.Ive tried pretty much all of them,and combation to no sucess.I also have anxiety and obsess over the disease to much..

Its like a placebo some days it seems,ive tried the medications they work and quit...

You seem to having a real hard time with this disease and you are so young as I recall you mentioned you were 27. I feel so bad for you because almost all your posts you are in bad shape. Didn't the doc say he wanted you to have the surgery. I know there are pros and cons but with your situation I think the pros definitely out weigh the bad.

I said this because I worry about you. Its funny how with this site you don't physically know each other but you start to feel and understand other peoples pain.

Hi Outlaw, I understand what you are going through. I have been through all that stuff. Right now my doc has sent me to a specialist because he doesn't know what to do any more. My new doc has started me on Nexium. I sure hope it doens't take months to work because it is starting to kick up problems with my asthma again. It got so bad in June that I had to go to the ER 2x for my asthma. I've never had to go to the ER for my asthma before. Since I had my meds switched last week my heartburn is so bad I have to sleep sitting up. I'm hoping the carafate my doc put me back on today gives me some relief tonight. Keep after your doc until he finds a combination. Oh and the surgery I had that in 2000 and it only lasted a year. I now have problems swallowing because my esophagus does not function right because of the surgery. So don't know what to tell you there. Barb

My ENT told me that it can take several weeks to months for my medication to relieve my symptoms.

There are times when many of our bodies may become use to PPI's and switching to another may be necessary, but going months without any relief seems extreme. It may be time to check in with your doc. Anxiety does play a role in GERD flares for many individuals, so you might want to check in with your dr on anxiety meds if any. Also, Cognitive behaviour Therapy for your anxiety may help with your GERD flares too. It will help you to work through anxiety flares, possibly keeping them at a minimum, which will probably help make a difference with your overall health.

"Not saying I got no relif but its still flareups on ocassion and sometimes night time acid.."

What causes the flare ups...? Is it when you drink alchol, or eat oily foods, or have some citrus fruit, eat to much etc? Since it flares there must be a trigger?

My last stomach doctor told me that to avoid anything that is carbonated including water. It's something that a study that came out in the last few years showed that it causes heartburn and I noticed I do have more problems when I drink anything carbonated. So I avoid anything with that. I also only drink Spring water because the chlorine in tap water and purified water seems to bother my stomach too. I saw something on here about that and that's when I started doing that with the Spring water. Anything is worth a try to get rid of this awful heartburn. Make sure you don't just sit back and accept the heartburn like I did for the last 5 years since having my surgery 6 years ago and it only worked a year. I now have a stomach doctor that is activiely trying to find a solution for me. His next step is to have the test for acid reflux where they put the tube down for 24 hours to measure problems. I have asthma that was caused by my acid reflux so don't sit back and accept that the doctors can't do anything. My doctor is giving Nexium which is new for me one month to see if it works. This is a new doc for me because my other doc left. He seems right on top of things. Barb
