Barretts, what to expect?

I had a endoscopy 12 days ago and went in on Friday for a colonoscopy. Just before the doctor gave me the seditive she said the biopsy from the endo said I had Barretts.

She had sent me home from the endo with AcipHex, which turns out I cannot tolerate. She then sent me home from the colonoscopy with samples of four other PPIs. Right now I'm trying the Prevacid, have only taken one and at least don't have the headache, but I know it's early in the trial of it.

However, I don't like how it makes me feel in other ways.

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with Barretts and what can I expect my future care to hold and what does it mean to have Barretts? I don't have an appt. with the doctor til Aug. 17th, so that's alot of time to wait and wonder. Thanks in advance for any input.

John hopkins has a great forum on this I cant belive more people here havent responded to worried about themselves.I dont have it,but its not a death sentence .4 to 1 percent get it thats from the mayo clinic get EC dont worry to much..You may need the Nissen..

There is a procedure called the Barrx goggle that it removes Barretts from you,and put new cells in its place ok..Good Luck

I think you haven't had many answers because not many of us have Barretts. I just had erosive esophagitis, but I didn't have an endoscopy done either.

I use Nexium 40 mg. since 4/14/06, and finally doing better, but it took a long time for me. There is still Protonix to try and Nexium, I sort of doubt Prilosec will help, but it could. It never helped me when I was having horrible pain from gastroparesis.

You should be fine if you can find a med you can tolerate.

Thank you Outlaw and Ilovecats for responding. And thank you both for the tips.

Turns out I can't tolerate any of the PPIs, so I'm trying to manage the heartburn with otc antiacids and diet. I see the doctor again on the 17th to discuss the findings. I've been reading up on the procedures that can be done and the Barxx sounds like the only one I would opt for.

Ilovecats, I see you have gastroparesis, I'm going to discuss that with my doctor as I just know the food I eat sits in my stomache for hours on end, may I ask what you do for that?

I've read up on some of the meds including reglan but since it has some pretty bad side effects I don't think I'll be able to tolerate that either. Have you heard of motilium?
